With their durability and versatility, it is easy to see why some of the longest lasting trucks are often the vehicle of choice for thousands of consumers each year. However, that dependability comes with a hefty price tag as well. That is why it is important to do a little research and find a truck that will not only do the job you need it to but also run for a long time.

The automotive research firm iSeeCars.com recently conducted a study to see what pickup trucks were most likely to surpass 200,000 miles on their odometers. Overall, the firm identified nine trucks that met the qualifications outlined in the study. We are going to take a look at the five longest lasting trucks on the list and break down why they would be a great choice for a new or experienced truck owner.

The List of Most Dependable Trucks

In their study to find the most dependable trucks on the road, iSeeCars.com determined that an average of 1.8% of all pickup trucks will make it over 200,000 miles if properly taken care of. There were five vehicles that exceeded the 1.8% threshold.

Not only did the five vehicles have a higher likelihood of making it past the 200,000 miles, but they were also rated highly for reliability and versatility. Many are often used as work trucks or for specific purposes that require high-performance with low wear and tear damage.

Toyota Tundra

Longest Lasting Truck Toyota Tundra

Coming in first on the list of longest lasting trucks is the Toyota Tundra. Not only does Toyota have a reputation for producing reliable vehicles, but the Tundra is also a great all-around truck for most consumers. On average, 2.9% of all Toyota Tundras will last longer than 200,000 miles with proper care and attention.

The Tundra has a classic feel to drive with its V-8 engine and automatic six-speed transmission. Overall, the Toyota Tundra is a great option for consumers who want a reliable work truck or something they can take off-road.

However, the price tag for pickups such as the Tundra can be quite hefty, even for used vehicles. That is why we have compiled a list of financing options that can help you when purchasing your next truck.

Toyota Tacoma

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Longest Lasting Truck Silverado

One of the go-to work trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is durable and a reliable truck for anyone looking to use it for a long time. Many people who purchase the Silverado do so because of its versatility on job sites. With as much wear and tear these pickup trucks often endure, it is a testament to their quality build that more than 2% make it past 200,000 miles.

The bed configuration on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is designed to offer flexibility with features such as lights, tie-downs, and rear bumper corner cutouts. This truck’s engine feels great under pressure when towing or pulling heavy loads.

Ford F-150

Longest Lasting Truck Ford F-150

For more than four decades the Ford F-150 has been the vehicle of choice for many service fleets nationwide, making it a great option to round out the list. With 1.9% of the trucks produced breaking the 200,000-mile mark, it is easy to see why they are frequently seen at worksites.

While some people might be surprised to see only 1.9% of the Ford F-150’s making it past 200,000 miles it is important to keep in mind that these vehicles are heavily used as work vehicles. They tend to take a beating throughout the years and can quickly rack up miles and repairs because of it.

GMC Sierra 1500

Longest Lasting Truck GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 proves to be a versatile truck as it performs well at the worksite or on the backroads. With more than 1.7% of all Sierras making it past the 200,000-mile mark, this truck is sure to live up to all of your expectations.

The vehicle’s versatility doesn’t just stop at its performance as it is designed to be a multipurpose truck. A range of engine options including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a turbo-diesel inline-six, and several V-8s are all available to consumers. An exclusive AT4 off-road package makes the GMC Sierra 1500 a master of off-road driving.

Honda Ridgeline (Honorable Mention)

Longest Lasting Truck Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline pickup truck was one of the most reliable trucks in the lineup. Just barely edging out the Toyota Tundra by 0.1%, 3% of these trucks will reach the 200,000-mile mark. The reason for not being considered in our top 4 is due to the low number of sales.

In 2020, the Ridgeline only sold roughly 30,000 units, where the Toyota Tundra had more than 100,000 units bought. A simple quick comparison between the two shows the reason for the vast difference in sales. The Ridgeline put simply, is a luxury vehicle that feels like you are driving a car. The Toyota Tundra on the other hand is built to withstand any job you put in front of it.

Selecting the Most Reliable Truck for Your Needs

When it comes to selecting a pickup truck there are a few things you must take into consideration. For example, if you plan on using your truck for work then you will want to look for an option that is durable with a high-performing engine and a versatile bed.

Used trucks often provide the biggest bang for your buck. Since most of the vehicles on the list have already depreciated in dollar value when they reach 100k miles, you can often pick them up at a fraction of the cost. With proper maintenance, any of the pickups could last you well past 200k miles.

Regardless if you need a reliable truck for work or just want to enjoy the fun of a little off-road driving, Municibid can help you find the best pickup truck.
